Dr. J. Eric Holmes (1930 - 2010)

With all deserved respect to Mr. Gygax and Mr. Arneson, it was Dr. Holmes who introduced me to a set of game rules in 1979 that would become a life-long hobby. I have played each of the various editions over the years, yet the blue-cover rulebook, with all its quirks and character, will always seem like home.

Rest in Peace, sir  - and thank you.

  1. One of the most interesting parts of the OSR to me is the assertion that a group of oldshool PCs are human or demi-human and follow their class or class/race strictly. Yet, Dr. Holmes presents the possibility of having a centaur and a werebear in your group among the usual suspects.
